Get ready for a festive blast from West Bengal’s very own Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee! Known for her unique talent in songwriting, this time she has written the lyrics for the theme song of Tala Prattoy Durga Puja, which is celebrating a massive milestone – its 100th year! The song, called ‘Bij Angan’ (which means ‘seeds in the courtyard’), was launched with great fanfare on Thursday, September 18, 2025. This foot-tapping number was beautifully sung by State Minister for Tourism and Information and Cultural Affairs Indranil Sen. Dhrubajyoti Bose Suvo, one of the event organisers, said, “As we celebrate a century of Tala Prattoy, ‘Bij Angan’ is a tribute to the enduring spirit of Durga Puja, Bengal’s heritage. We were honoured that the honourable Chief Minister wrote this special song for our centenary year, beautifully rendered by Indranil Sen.” Mamata Banerjee has surprised everyone over the past few years by composing songs for festive seasons, blending culture with celebration. But that’s not all! During a State Cabinet meeting on the same day, she asked all ministers to keep a close look on their areas during the Puja festival. She warned about maintaining peace and warned against any attempts to disturb the joy and harmony of Durga Puja. Durga Puja is not just a religious celebration in West Bengal; it is the biggest festival here and also a major chance for political parties to connect with people. The Trinamool Congress chief will soon kick off big Durga Puja inaugurations across the state. To support all community pujas, the Chief Minister announced a generous fund of ₹1.10 lakh for about 43,000 groups. That is a whopping ₹500 crore from the state government, aiming to make the festival grand and vibrant! The government proudly states that Durga Puja pumps up the economy like no other festival. A British Council report from 2021 showed that this creative economy alone was worth over ₹32,377 crore and added 2.58% to West Bengal’s GDP back in 2019. Adding glitter to the festival’s prestige, UNESCO recognized the Kolkata Durga Puja in December 2021 as part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. So, get ready! With Mamata Banerjee’s heartfelt song, big-budget plans, and a promise of peace, this year’s Durga Puja promises to be more dazzling and joyful than ever.
