India Warns Citizens: Beware of Fake Job Offers in Iran Leading to Kidnap and Ransom

September 20, 2025

In a sharp warning on September 19, 2025, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) asked its citizens to stay alert against fake job offers from Iran. The MEA said several Indians have recently been tricked by false promises of jobs in Iran or even further in third countries. Sounds like a good opportunity? Think again! When these Indians arrive in Iran, some are kidnapped by criminal gangs. Their families then face demands for ransom to get them back safely. The MEA’s official spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, made this clear during a press conference in New Delhi. He said, "Indian nationals have been kidnapped by criminal gangs and ransoms have been demanded from their families for securing their release." The government stressed that Iran allows visa-free entry to Indians only for tourist visits, not for jobs or other work purposes. It warned everyone, "Any agents promising visa-free entry into Iran for employment or other purposes may well be in connivance with criminal gangs." This means any tempting offers to travel to Iran for work with easy visa rules are likely scams. The MEA urges Indian citizens, "to exercise the strictest vigilance regarding such employment promises or offers." So, fellow Indians dreaming of working abroad, remember: not all that glitters is gold! Stay safe and don’t get trapped by fake job offers that might end in danger. Always verify your sources and avoid shady agents to keep your journey smooth and safe.
