A big tech party happened at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) recently, and it was all about Tamil language and digital magic! At an international conference on Tamil Computing and Information Technology, some exciting Tamil software projects were launched. Imagine a Handwriting Recognition System that reads Tamil script perfectly – it's called Tamil OCR. Then there’s a powerful Large Language Model built especially for Tamil, like an artificial intelligence brain trained in Tamil language skills! As if that wasn’t enough, the tech wizards also showed off an Augmented Reality (AR) Virtual Museum. This museum isn’t ordinary; it’s a high-tech experience that brings rich Tamil heritage alive in a virtual world you can explore. The conference was a sparkling meeting of minds, with scholars, technology leaders, and teachers all discussing ways to boost homegrown Tamil language technology. It was led by the Department of Computational Intelligence at SRMIST, working hand-in-hand with the International Forum for Information Technology in Tamil (INFITT). Big names like C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor of SRMIST, Baskaran Kesavan, Chairman of INFITT, and S. Arumugam, Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Open University, shared their thoughts and inspired the crowd. Their presence showed how important this work is for Tamil's future in the digital age. This conference is a massive step in mixing culture with cutting-edge technology. From reading Tamil handwriting on screens to exploring heritage through AR, Tamil is charging ahead in the tech world!
