Tamil Nadu Shines with 41 Lakh Skill Certifications, Rural Students Reap Big

Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, popularly known as TN Skill, has achieved a fabulous milestone! It has given out more than 41 lakh skill certificates to over 14 lakh students all over the state. This exciting news came from Kranthi Kumar Pati, the Managing Director of TN Skill, who spoke on Wednesday during a skill workshop for the southern zone by NCVET. Mr. Pati proudly shared that the secret sauce behind this success is the government’s strong push, especially through the popular Naan Mudhalvan scheme. This scheme has helped 14.6 lakh students jump on the skill train! But that's not all. Skill courses are now a part of the university credit system. That means students must complete a 45-hour course every semester as an elective. The coolest part? Experts from top industries deliver these courses, and independent agencies check the student's work. So, students earn marks while learning skills that big companies want! And there’s a spicy twist in this success story: the best results are popping up not in fancy city colleges but in remote rural areas! Mr. Pati noted, “The most return we have seen is in the rural, remotest parts where students across the State could benefit from this initiative.” This shows skill learning is reaching every corner of Tamil Nadu. When asked about the courses, Mr. Pati revealed many big-name partners are onboard – giants like Oracle, CISCO, IBM, Google, and Microsoft. These courses first started with engineering students but now include Arts and Science streams, each linked to the right industry jobs. Both online and in-person classes keep the learning flexible. K. Veera Raghava Rao, Secretary of Tamil Nadu’s Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department, added an important point: skill development isn’t fixed. It changes often as new industry needs emerge. States must keep evolving to stay ahead and support trainers at all levels. Vinita Aggarwal, Executive Member of NCVET, shared the workshop’s aim: spreading awareness of the Council’s role in recognizing awarding bodies and assessment agencies. NCVET has approved 147 awarding bodies and 68 assessment agencies nationwide. “If we improve the quality of these two bodies, we can improve skilling to a great extent,” she said. The event even had a sweet video message from Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Education, cheering on all participants. Along with Tamil Nadu, stakeholders from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep joined the workshop. This power-packed workshop and TN Skill’s grand achievements are proof that Tamil Nadu is lighting the lamp for skill development, not just in cities but deep into its villages. The future looks bright and buzzing with talent!
