Imagine a narrow single-lane road suddenly turning into a wide, breezy two-lane route! That’s exactly what’s happening behind the Ennore Thermal Power Plant in Tiruvallur district. The 4.6 km stretch from Chepakkam (not to be mixed up with Chennai’s Chepauk!) to Mouthambedu near Minjur is all set to get wider. This is no ordinary road fix, but a smart move to ease traffic flowing through this busy industrial area. According to spicy insider info from the Highways Department, "It will come in handy during heavy traffic when motorists can be diverted to it. It can also be used in times of emergency. Local vehicles will also be able to drive safely." So you can say goodbye to tight squeezes and scary drives! But wait, there’s more! Along with this project, two other crucial roads will also get an upgrade. The Chinna Kavanam to Perumbedu Road, starting just 600 meters from the railway underpass, spans 8 km. Out of this, a 2.8 km stretch will be widened from 5.5 meters to 7 meters, costing ₹3.21 crore. Here’s a sweet bonus – the Balasubramaniaswamy Temple at Perumbedu attracts huge crowds on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and festivals. A Highways official explains, “The widening will aid devotees to the temple,” making their visit hassle-free. And last but not least, the Athipattu Railway Station Road will stretch its shoulders too, growing from a narrow 3.75 meters to a safer 5.5 meters over 1.6 km. This Rs. 1.67 crore job completes the trio of road boosts. This big plan totals Rs. 10.50 crore and also includes fixing culverts so water flows freely—no more pesky floods! Tenders are out, and basic works like marking and clearing should start by December. So, folks in and around Tiruvallur, get ready for smoother rides, less jam, and safer streets soon. Roads are opening up, and the future looks bright for your daily commute!
