Meta Eyes Google’s Gemini AI to Boost Facebook Ads, Shocking Rivalry Twist!

September 26, 2025

Big shock in the online ad world! Meta, owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is quietly chatting with Google Cloud about using Google's Gemini AI models to make its ad business better. According to a report by The Information on Thursday, these talks are still early and might not turn into a deal. But just the fact that Meta is looking at a rival’s AI shows how tricky it is to master AI, even after spending billions on it. Meta wants to fine-tune Google’s Gemini and open-source Gemma AI models using its massive ad data. The goal? To improve how they target ads to people. It’s like Meta trying to borrow Google’s secret AI spice to cook tastier ads for users. This is surprising because Meta and Google are fierce competitors in online advertising. Both giants—Meta and Google—are pouring money into AI and said in their recent earnings reports that AI is helping their ad businesses grow. Meta had also thought about teaming up with Google or OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT, to add AI features to its chatbot Meta AI and its social apps, said The Information last month. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, didn’t comment on the talks, and Meta didn’t reply immediately to Reuters. But one thing is clear: the battle to dominate online ads just got more intense and interesting with AI in the spotlight!
