Here’s a heartwarming story from the city of Secunderabad! The 63-year-old Lions Club of Secunderabad is kicking off a wonderful mission to give respect even to those who pass away alone and forgotten. They will arrange proper funeral rites for unclaimed bodies, something that’s often overlooked at government hospitals. This inspiring step was sparked by senior Lions member Vishal Vakaria, who used to pay from his own pocket to cremate these bodies. At a recent felicitation event honoring engineers, advocates, journalists, and teachers, club president Aarthi Goyal proudly shared the plan. She said, “While Mr. Vakaria was doing the service on his own, we as members of the Club felt the need to join hands to cremate the unclaimed bodies. Government hospitals often receive bodies that remain unclaimed and unattended. We decided that these should get a dignified and respectful farewell through proper cremation.” How beautiful is that? But wait, there’s more! Another amazing initiative by the club is their sanitary pads production unit in the city. This project, supported by generous club members, aims to provide free, hygienic, and biodegradable sanitary napkins to women and girls in government schools, slum areas, and eventually rural zones where menstrual hygiene is often ignored. This unit can produce up to 30,000 pads, helping many stay healthy and confident. For six decades, the Lions Club of Secunderabad has been a powerhouse of community care. They operate an eye hospital, dental clinic, physiotherapy center, artificial limb center, old age home, and the sanitary pads production unit. What’s more, the club supports members of the transgender community to gain independence. This story shines a light on how a dedicated group can bring a ray of hope and dignity to so many lives, underlining the true spirit of humanity and service.
