India-US Trade Talks Heating Up: Piyush Goyal Sees Fair Deal Soon

October 24, 2025

NEW DELHI: The buzz is on as India and the US inch closer to a new trade deal! Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal shared exciting news on Thursday that talks between India and the US for a proposed trade agreement are progressing well. He said, “We are in dialogue with the US, our teams are engaged. We recently had the commerce secretary visit the US, and he met with his counterparts. We continue to engage with them and talks are progressing. We hope to work towards a fair and equitable agreement in the near future.” Last week, an Indian team led by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal wrapped up a crucial three-day meeting in Washington on October 17. This was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties amid some rough patches in India-US relations. The trade talks started with a big push earlier this year. In February, the leaders of both countries told officials to start negotiating a bilateral trade pact. So far, five rounds of talks have been completed, with hopes to close the first phase by October-November 2025. Just last month, Piyush Goyal took charge and led a delegation to New York for more trade discussions, signaling India’s serious intent to strike a balanced deal. These talks are key because the relationship between the two countries has seen some tense moments. With both sides rolling out their negotiating hats, the nation watches eagerly to see if they can pin down a partnership that’s both fair and beneficial. As Goyal appeals for fairness and balance, all eyes remain on the upcoming talks to turn hope into reality!
