Get ready, students and schools! Profential, a bright new digital credential platform from HeadStream Technologies, is making waves in education. This India-US startup is zooming ahead to team up with more than 600 institutions in just the next 18 months! What does Profential do? It helps schools and colleges reward students with digital tokens—not just for exam marks but for every achievement, from sports to arts and beyond. This means students get official, verified digital badges they can carry in a special digital wallet. Right now, Profential is already working with famous names like Panimalar Engineering College, School of Management DG Vaishnav College, and Jaya College of Engineering and Technology in India. On the other side of the world, it’s joined hands with the University of Michigan and several K-12 schools in the US. In total, the startup partners with 16 school districts and universities in the US and counts five top Indian colleges too. Co-founder Pramod Damodaran is clear: "Unlike traditional document storage platforms like DigiLocker, Profential is designed to go beyond just being a simple repository of certificates. We want to build an ecosystem where student achievements beyond just marksheets and degrees, but a wider range of skills and accomplishments, can be documented, shared, and verified." Here’s how it works: The Profential team teams up with schools to create a list of possible digital credentials based on the school events calendar. Then, teachers get the power to issue these credentials when students participate or excel. Students collect these badges in their digital wallets and can even build their own resume on the platform. With a simple QR code, they can share their achievements with potential employers or colleges. Damodaran says, "The credentials will give a verified reference to the kind of activities the student has taken part in and skills that they have developed as a result." Although some companies have internal systems for employee skill tracking, he stresses that Profential is the only Indian platform focused on students, both in school and college, providing credentials and smart profile building. With India going digital fast, Profential is betting big on capturing this growing market. "With rapid digitisation in India, we see large potential for this market, and since there aren’t many significant Indian competitors, we are expecting an early-mover advantage in the Indian education ecosystem," adds Damodaran.
