Six Afghan Nationals Nabbed in Kolkata for Fake IDs and Visa Violations in Just One Month!
November 23, 2025
Kolkata police are on a hot trail! At least six Afghan nationals were caught in less than a month for staying in the city without valid visas. What’s more shocking? They faked crucial Indian documents like passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and voter ID cards to act like Indian citizens.
Here's the scoop: On November 17, Naseer Khan, an Afghan man with a lookout notice, was arrested at Kolkata airport while trying to fly to Kuala Lumpur. Officials found two more passports with different names on him during questioning, said a Kolkata police officer who wished to stay anonymous.
Earlier in November, three other Afghan men were nabbed from the Bhawanipore area. These guys used their rented address to get driving licenses, Aadhaar, and voter IDs. Later, two of their friends were also arrested from the Watgunge area.
The city's Security Control Organisation is digging deeper into these cases. The crackdown got stronger after the Union Home Ministry issued the Immigration and Foreigners (Exemption) Order, 2025, on September 1. This order targets people who entered India with Afghan passports but overstayed after their visas expired.
A second police officer shared, "Some more Afghans living in Kolkata and the nearby areas are under the scanner. Most of these people entered India as refugees because of the war in Afghanistan. They were allowed temporary stay on humanitarian grounds but didn’t leave even after the Taliban took over."
Kolkata is under watch, and the police are not letting these fake ID storms blow over easily!
