In a tragic turn of events, a 13-year-old student named Krishnendu Das from Panskura, West Bengal, took his own life after being accused of theft. The boy, who left a heartbreaking note stating his innocence, was embroiled in a shoplifting incident involving three packets of chips. According to reports, Krishnendu was confronted by a civic volunteer, Subhankar Dikshit, who allegedly punished him severely before making him apologize publicly. This traumatic experience, coupled with the subsequent scolding by his mother, drove Krishnendu to attempt suicide upon reaching home. He was immediately taken to Tamluk Medical College and Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The family has attributed his drastic step to the harsh treatment meted out to him by the shopkeeper and the public humiliation he faced. The civic volunteer, who reportedly played a significant role in the incident, is currently missing. Despite no formal complaint being lodged, authorities have registered a case of unnatural death and have assured a thorough investigation if a complaint is filed.
