From Rs 1,000 Borrowed to Rs 11 Crore Jackpot: Rajasthan Vegetable Seller’s Dream Come True in Punjab Lottery

November 6, 2025

For many Indians, buying a lottery ticket is a small act filled with big hopes—a dream to escape hardships and change life overnight. For Amit Sehra, a 32-year-old vegetable seller from Kotputli town in Rajasthan’s Jaipur district, this dream exploded into a dazzling reality. What started with a borrowed Rs 1,000 soon blossomed into an incredible Rs 11 crore prize! Amit had borrowed the money from a friend during a visit to Moga, Punjab. With this cash, he bought two lottery tickets—one for himself and one for his wife. While his wife’s ticket only won Rs 1,000, Amit’s ticket, purchased in Bathinda for Rs 500, hit the jackpot by taking home the top prize in the Punjab State Lottery’s Diwali Bumper 2025. Overwhelmed and speechless, Amit told ANI, “I can’t express my happiness. All my grief has vanished today.” He called his win a blessing from Lord Hanuman, saying, “I am a devotee of Lord Hanuman. This is divine intervention.” But Amit’s story does not stop with his newfound wealth. Filled with gratitude and kindness, he plans to share his fortune. “I have lost my mother, so I understand the pain of daughters,” he explained. Amit intends to give Rs 50 lakh each to the two daughters of the friend who lent him the money. The remaining amount will be spent on his children’s education and building a home for his family. Before this whirlwind of fortune, Amit struggled to make ends meet with his small vegetable cart. Initially, he couldn’t even afford the travel expenses to Chandigarh to claim his prize. Expressing his deep gratitude, he said, “It is God’s blessing that he gave me ‘chhappar phad ke’.” Officials from the Punjab State Lottery Department confirmed Amit’s claim. They explained that winners must submit the original ticket along with their bank and personal details to the Punjab government office. Importantly, there is no fee to claim the prize, and only paper tickets are valid since the state does not run any online lottery schemes. A video of Amit’s joyous win has spread like wildfire on social media. People praised his humility and kind heart. While many wished him the best in managing his fortune, some expressed concern for his safety and privacy. This incredible story reminds us that sometimes, luck can find anyone, anywhere—even a humble vegetable seller from Rajasthan—making dreams come true with a sprinkle of hope and fortune!
