A shocking photo showing a young boy urinating right outside the Chennai International Airport has set social media on fire! The image was shared on X by Reclaim Chennai Streets, capturing a woman standing next to the child as he relieved himself near a pillar at Terminal 1, A4 exit gate. The post said, “NRIs come back and the first thing they do is make their kids piss right in front of the airport.” It added, “The kid was apprehensive, but the mom told him it was fine to piss like this. Will they dare to do this in any other country?” This picture unleashed a storm of criticism online. Many users showed their disgust and frustration over the lack of civic sense, especially in a busy public spot like an airport. One user said, “This is rare, I have never seen this in an airport exit before, either ways disgusting.” Another user, who is an NRI, shared, “As an NRI myself, I have definitely seen this and many other things. Throwing trash out of car in India but not in US, littering etc. I didn’t have the confidence to call them out on that few decades ago, but it won’t be the same now.” However, some defended the parents by blaming poor airport design. They pointed out the shortage of toilets near arrival and pickup zones. A worried user commented, “Inside terminal no issues. At least we get decent toilets. But can you find toilets outside the terminal? On departure level, public can’t access toilets inside terminal. So they have to go down to arrivals level and find toilets. There are two steel boxes called etoilets which stink. For a decent toilet, you have to walk to the metro station which takes 5 to 10 minutes. Worst airport design has to blame here. Not people.” Another said, “This is terrible. But keep in mind that there are no toilets once you pass by customs, not even inside the airport. You have to go to the first floor or another building to find a toilet. The Chennai airport is terribly planned. Such a contrast with the BLR/DEL/HYD airports.” The debate is hot and fast! Many social media users want stricter fines and better civic education to stop such behavior. One user suggested, “Fine him 500$ & put his picture on a wall of shame. He will never do it again.” Another argued, “This is unacceptable @ChennaiAirport security should’ve charged them a cleaning fee. They could’ve easily planned a rest room break after arrival.” This fiery discussion reminds everyone how important public hygiene and good civic sense are when we travel. Should the airport fix its toilet access or should people take greater responsibility? The Chennai Airport urine photo sure stirred up a spicy debate on X!
