Chinese Woman Pours Fury on Hotel, Pays 280 Times Room Cost for Flooding Disaster
November 10, 2025
Here’s a wild hotel drama straight from Hainan, China! On October 28, a Chinese woman checked into a hotel late at night. She booked the room online for just 108 yuan (about US$15) and stayed for one night. But within 30 minutes of checking in, she asked for a full refund, saying her plans had changed. The hotel said “No!” The manager, Xiong, explained that their rules don’t allow cancellations after check-in. The woman was unhappy, claiming the room was poor quality and noisy. The hotel tried to calm her with a free room upgrade, but she stuck to her refund demand.
The situation turned hotter when the woman called the police herself and filed a complaint with the local government hotline. While waiting for help, she acted out — in a big way! She flooded the room by turning on taps in the washbasin and shower, plus tossed bedding into the shower and covered it with shower gel. The water damage stayed hidden until it leaked from her second-floor room all the way down into the hotel lobby below.
Manager Xiong shared that the taps ran from 2 AM for hours, soaking the room and wrecking walls and floors. The hotel put the damage at a whopping 20,000 yuan (around US$2,800). With police now involved, the woman admitted what she did and agreed to pay for the losses. She ended up handing over nearly 30,000 yuan (US$4,200) — about 280 times the original room price!
According to Chinese law, if someone hurts public or private property causing serious damage over 5,000 yuan, they can face fines, detention, or even criminal charges. This fierce flood story shows how one angry guest’s tantrum turned into a costly mess. Talk about paying dearly for anger!
