Deadly Red Fort Blast: 9 Dead, 24 Hurt; Hyundai Car Owner Detained, Terror Ties Suspected
November 11, 2025
A sudden, powerful explosion shook the area near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening, leaving a trail of destruction and despair. At around 7 pm, a Hyundai i20 car went off with a bang near the Subhash Marg traffic signal, tragically killing nine people and injuring 24 others. Many vehicles nearby were gutted by the blast’s fury.
Delhi Police quickly swung into action and detained Md Salman, the owner of the Hyundai i20 involved, from Gurugram, Haryana. Salman informed police that he sold the car in March to a man named Devendra in Okhla. Later, the vehicle changed hands again, possibly to someone in Ambala, making the vehicle's ownership history murky. Such multiple ownership is a common tactic among terrorists using suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (SVB-IEDs), officials revealed.
Forensic teams and anti-terror experts rushed to the blast site. Surprisingly, they found no shrapnel or pellets, which is unusual for a bomb blast. An officer said, "The blast occurred in a moving Hyundai i20 car in which three people were sitting. We have not found any pellet or puncture in the body of the injured, which is unusual in a bomb blast. We are investigating all angles." Experts suspect a very highly inflammable chemical mixture, possibly ammonium nitrate combined with RDX, caused the explosion’s deadly impact without leaving craters.
Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the media, saying, "This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged some vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives. Within 10 minutes of receiving the information of the blast, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch arrived at the spot."
He added that a detailed enquiry will take place with senior officers at the Home Ministry the next day. Shah visited the injured at LNJP Hospital and stressed that top investigative agencies are probing the incident thoroughly. One vital lead is CCTV footage grabbed from over 230 cameras, which helped trace the car’s movement and registration number, confirming the case’s terror angle potential.
As the investigation unfolds, police are also checking connections with a recent seizure in Faridabad. The deadly blast near the iconic Red Fort has sent chills across the capital, triggering fears and hopes for swift justice.
