Government's Cleanliness Drive Earns Rs 800 Crore Scrap Sale, Enough for 7 Vande Bharat Trains!
November 11, 2025
NEW DELHI: What a smashing success! The government earned a whopping Rs 800 crore by selling scrap during its month-long cleanliness drive in October. That’s not pocket change – it’s enough money to buy seven shiny Vande Bharat trains, ready to speed our nation forward!
But wait, there’s more! This isn’t just a one-time jackpot. Over the past five rounds of this special cleanliness mission, the government has raked in around Rs 4,100 crore through scrap sales. How big is that? Jitendra Singh, the personnel minister, says it matches the budget needed for one massive space mission or a bunch of Chandrayaan missions!
The campaign also cleared a huge 923 lakh square feet of office space – just imagine! This space is so vast that we could build a giant mall or some huge infrastructure there, Singh added on X (formerly Twitter).
Launched in 2021, this special swachhta (cleanliness) campaign runs every October from the 2nd to the 31st. It is coordinated by the department of administrative reforms and public grievances and involves a massive coordination between 84 central ministries and departments.
The mantra this time: "Turning waste into wealth". Central ministers personally briefed officers, held lively meetings, and urged every government department to cut down on old files and clear backlogs, with a special focus during the cleanliness month.
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) even mobilized workers to spruce up outdoor spaces across government offices.
In short, the campaign isn’t just about broom-sweeping. It’s about smart work, less clutter, and transforming old junk into pure gold for the government kitty, propelling India’s 'New India' dream forward on a fast track!
