Deadly Red Fort Blast: 12 Killed, Hyundai i20 Owner Detained, Terror Angle Suspected
November 11, 2025
Delhi faced a terrifying evening on Monday near its famous Red Fort, where a loud and deadly bomb blast shook the area. At around 7 pm, an explosion in a moving Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal killed 12 people and injured 24 others. Several vehicles were destroyed, creating chaos and fear.
The police quickly stepped into action and arrested Md Salman, the car’s original owner, from Gurugram. Salman told officers that he had sold the car to a man named Devendra in Okhla back in March. The car later changed hands again, with police tracing it to someone in Ambala. This chain of multiple owners made police suspicious, as terrorists often use this trick to hide their tracks when planning suicide vehicle-borne bomb attacks.
From the blast site, forensic and anti-terror squads found strange clues — no crater, no pellet injuries on the victims. This puzzled them at first. “The blast occurred in a moving Hyundai i20 car in which three people were sitting. We have not found any pellet or puncture in the body of the injured, which is unusual in a bomb blast. We are investigating all angles,” a police officer told PTI.
Experts believe the explosion was caused by a highly inflammable chemical, possibly a dangerous mix of ammonium nitrate and RDX — a powerful explosive. This explains why the blast caused heavy damage but left no normal bomb signs. Investigators are also checking if this blast links to a recent big seizure of explosives in Faridabad.
Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the tragedy, saying, “This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged some vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives.” He added that within 10 minutes, special police teams reached the blast site to begin the investigation.
Shah revealed that a detailed analysis of the blast will be done with top security officials the next morning. Investigators are already scrutinizing footage from over 230 CCTV cameras that helped trace the car’s route and identify the vehicle’s registration number “HR 26 7674.” This evidence is crucial to uncovering the full story.
Delhi Police along with Gurugram police are questioning Md Salman deeply, hoping his information will lead them to the masterminds. With multiple owners, fake IDs, and suspicious chemical traces, the terror angle is very much on the table. The city hopes these brave police efforts will soon bring justice and safety back to the capital.
