Panaji: Boom! Chorao gram sabha has cracked the whip and decided to dissolve the village panchayat. Why? Because the panchayat allegedly failed big time to cancel illegal construction licences. Villagers lost trust as their repeated complaints were ignored like whispers in the wind. A special meeting was held to tackle the storm caused by a sudden rise in illegal constructions. The panchayat came under fire for giving green lights without checking proper documents or following official rules for issuing certificates. Euzibo D’Silva, one of the local residents, pointed fingers at nine fancy residential villas coming up near St Bartholomew’s Church. These homes even boast swimming pools! But here’s the twist — the construction site does not have a proper access road at all. Imagine huge villas popping up in the middle of nowhere! Another worried villager shouted, “The panchayat has bypassed the norms to destroy the biodiversity of our village.” That’s a serious accusation because Chorao is known for its rich natural beauty and wildlife. Facing the villagers’ fury, Deputy Sarpanch Jayanti Naik promised action. “The panchayat will conduct a meeting on this issue and come up with a resolution,” she assured. But will it be enough to win back the faith of angry villagers? The clock is ticking.
