Telangana Government Rolls Out New Law to Protect Gig and Platform Workers in 2025
November 18, 2025
CHENNAI, TAMIL NADU: The Telangana Government has given a big green light to a new law — the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2025. This law aims to protect thousands of gig and platform workers who work with e-commerce companies and cab services.
After a cabinet meeting, G Vivek Venkataswamy, Minister for Labour, Employment, Training, and Factories of Telangana, announced that the bill will be introduced in the next Assembly session. This means the state is serious about making life safer and fairer for gig workers.
What’s sizzling about this bill? A special board will be made, with different stakeholders sitting together. The companies must send an officer to this board. These officers can raise important issues faced by gig workers. This way, decisions can come from real talks and real problems.
Every gig and platform worker must register their names with this board. Moreover, the bill plans to create a welfare fund just for them. It also introduces a grievance redressal system, so if workers face problems, they have a place to get help.
Shaik Salauddin, Founder-President of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU), cheered this big step. Calling it a "transformative initiative," he promised the union will work closely with the government to make sure this law really benefits all gig and platform workers.
This new act could be a game changer for delivery boys, cab drivers, and many others who work hard but often feel left out. Telangana is setting a bright example for other states to follow!
