In a thrilling cricket battle at Guwahati's Barsapara Stadium, South Africa took control of the second Test against India with a huge first innings score of 489 runs. The star of the day was Senuran Muthusamy, who scored his very first Test century with a calm and confident 109. Alongside him was a powerful 93-run innings by Marco Jansen, who smashed seven sixes and showed great strength. The pitch was slow and helped the batsmen more than the bowlers. South Africa's first few batsmen got starts but couldn't make big scores. Then number seven Muthusamy came in and led a strong lower-order fightback. He first steadied the innings with Kyle Verreynne, who scored 45 runs, and then joined with Jansen for a bruising partnership that put South Africa ahead. "It was a really special moment in front of a full house," Muthusamy said about his century. "I'm just glad that I could contribute to the team and really put some runs on the board in the first innings, which is always important." He also praised Jansen's hitting, saying, "It was incredible. I had the best seat in the house. That was special ball-striking." India’s spin-heavy bowlers had a tough day as they tried hard on the slow pitch. They thought the lower order would be easier to bowl at, but Muthusamy played like a top batter. India came close to breaking the partnership when Muthusamy was given out lbw off spinner Ravindra Jadeja, but after a review, the decision was reversed because the ball hit his glove first. Muthusamy reached his fifty and then his century with singles off Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj. Jansen’s energetic hitting included seven sixes, helping the pair add 97 runs before Verreynne got out stumped trying to be aggressive against Jadeja. South Africa lost Muthusamy to Siraj and Simon Harmer soon after, but Jansen kept attacking until he was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav while just short of a maiden Test hundred. He looked very disappointed as he stared at his stumps. India ended Day 2 at nine runs without loss, trailing by 480 runs. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul will resume their innings on Monday with a huge challenge ahead.
