An intense clash unfolded in Kerala’s Kasaragod district as a booth level officer (BLO) named P. Ajith accused Surendran, a Communist Party of India (Marxist) panchayat member, of physically assaulting him. The drama broke out on Thursday morning during a camp held at booth No. 78 in Delampady, where SIR forms were being filled and submitted. According to the complaint lodged by Mr. Ajith with the Adoor police, Surendran grabbed him by the collar, hurled abusive words, and pushed him to the ground. This shocking incident was reportedly triggered by previous tension between the two, as they had a verbal clash over how the SIR forms were being distributed. The accused Surendran is no stranger to controversy. He is not only a panchayat member from Ward 7, Payaradka but also chairs the panchayat’s welfare standing committee. Earlier, he faced a complaint for allegedly assaulting a youth inside the panchayat office. Adding fuel to the fire, a video surfaced that appears to show the BLO being threatened, intensifying the seriousness of this tale. The BLO told reporters, "I will take this matter to higher officials," signaling that the battle is far from over. This incident shines a glaring spotlight on local politics and power struggles playing out at grassroots levels in Kerala. Will justice be served or will this become another murky chapter? Stay tuned as the story develops.
