Panjab University Students Gear Up to Gherao BJP Offices Over Senate Poll Delay
November 27, 2025
Get ready for a fiery showdown! On November 26, 2025, Panjab University (PU) students declared they will gherao (surround) BJP offices across Punjab and Chandigarh on December 3. Why? Because they are tired of waiting for the senate poll schedule that has been kept on hold for over a year! This strong move is their way to ramp up protests and make sure their voices roar loud.
The student leaders, marching under the banner of Panjab University Bachao Morcha, have made it clear: “The protest will continue until our demand is met.” Alongside them stand farmers' groups, religious organisations, and other student bodies, all ready to support this mega agitation.
So, what's the fuss about? Despite Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu’s assurance that the senate poll schedule would come out soon, no official announcement has arrived. Students say they have been waiting eagerly for days but remain clueless about the election timeline.
Earlier on November 26, PU saw a complete shutdown as students closed down the campus to push for the much-needed election schedule. They gathered near the Vice Chancellor’s office, making their stand crystal clear. The administration didn't take chances—they declared a holiday, closed all offices and departments, and postponed the day’s exams. Police were on high alert, with anti-riot vehicles parked nearby to keep peace.
This isn’t the first time the campus has been a sizzling hotbed of protest. On November 10, thousands of PU students marched in a massive rally, even storming the university gates and clashing with security. The fight began against the Central government's sudden decision to restructure PU’s senate and syndicate—key governing bodies of the varsity. The Education Ministry responded by withdrawing the controversial order on November 7 after strong pressure.
Yet, the students are not backing down. Their demand now is simple and clear: announce the senate election schedule immediately!
Student leaders met the Vice Chancellor, who said the schedule has been sent to the Vice President of India—the chancellor of Panjab University—for approval. Wait or not? The students say, "Not anymore!"
Adding more firepower, political parties like the Aam Aadmi Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress, and influential farmers' bodies including Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), SKM (Non-Political), and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha have thrown their weight behind the protests.
The stage is set for December 3 — will the BJP offices see a sea of protesting students and supporters? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: the Panjab University students are ready to fight with all their might for their voice to be heard!
