Violence Rocks Kaliachak: Two TMC Workers and Vendor Killed Amid Rising Tensions
November 28, 2025
Violence has erupted like a storm in Kaliachak, the troubled area of Malda district, West Bengal, with deadly results. In just 48 hours, three deaths have shattered peace and sent waves of panic through the community. The victims include two Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers and a roadside food vendor.
First, on Thursday morning, November 27, 2025, Ekramul Sheikh, a TMC worker, was brutally stabbed to death during a so-called kangaroo court meeting—a chaotic local gathering where disputes get settled unofficially. A viral video showed two groups chasing each other with sharp weapons as the violence spiraled out of control. Ekramul’s wife cried out, "The violence erupted when they were all participating in a kangaroo court session in the community. Many of them attacked him, he was all alone." She revealed the fight began over land and farming issues.
Adding spice to the drama, another TMC worker claimed the attackers were also from their own party, calling it "party in-fighting." Yet, local TMC leaders argue it was just a household feud with no political link.
The police have not stayed silent—they detained at least ten people tied to Ekramul’s death and are still hunting the main culprit.
Then, shocking everyone, the body of Wabaidulla Khan, a 32-year-old TMC worker, coal trader, and brick-kiln owner, was found near a mango farm on Tuesday, November 25. Missing since Monday, Wabaidulla’s body showed a severe head injury and a bullet wound. The police suspect murder but remain cautious about confirming the cause of death.
BJP West Bengal state president Samik Bhattacharya lit the fire further, saying, "TMC rule is getting over, so they have started fighting. TMC is now killing TMC. Look at last 3 years data, the number of TMC workers who have died is very high."
This calamity raises huge questions about security and police effectiveness in Kaliachak. The region has a grim history: earlier this year, TMC councillor Dulal Sarkar was shot dead in broad daylight, and another worker, Ataul Haque alias Hasu Sheikh, was killed in similar gun violence on January 14, 2025.
With heavy police deployment now in place, Kaliachak is tense, and residents fear more bloodshed. Will peace ever return to this hotspot, or will political fights keep turning deadly?
