Hold on to your umbrellas! Cyclone Ditwah, swirling near Sri Lanka and the southwest Bay of Bengal, is set to shower south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema with heavy rain from Friday, November 28, 2025. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says light to moderate rain will hit many places, with heavy bursts at isolated spots. But wait, the rain will not just stop there — it's going to intensify over the next two days! Expect even heavier rains by November 29 and 30, with extremely heavy rain hitting some isolated areas. An orange alert flashes for the south Andhra coast, along with north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. So, what's coming next? The rain will start to calm down from December 1. Meanwhile, Rayalaseema is also in for a soaking with light to moderate rains spilling across many areas and heavy rain hitting some places. Cyclone Ditwah is moving steadily north-northwest at 10 km/hr. On Friday morning, it was about 40 km southeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) and closer to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts — these regions need to stay alert! Ditwah is expected to reach the southwest Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh by early morning of November 30. Wind warnings? Absolutely! Currently, winds are blowing at 35-45 km/hr with gusts up to 55 km/hr over the west-central Bay and south Andhra coast. But from Friday evening, winds will become fiercer — gusts up to 70-80 km/hr from November 29 evening through November 30 morning! Seas will turn rough to very rough, and even high waves will roar till November 30 before calming down slowly from December 1. Attention, fishermen! Total fishing bans are in force along the coasts of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh till December 1. Those out at sea should avoid the southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area, and adjoining coasts till December 1. Also, steer clear of the southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Maldives, and Kerala coasts till November 30. It's time to stay safe, keep weather updates handy, and prepare for some wild weather ahead as Cyclone Ditwah plays its part!
