Deadly Floods Ravage Southern Thailand, Songkhla Province Faces 110 Fatalities
November 28, 2025
Bangkok, Thailand – Southern Thailand is drowning in sorrow and water as devastating floods have claimed at least 145 lives. Government spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat revealed the grim update on Friday, highlighting Songkhla province as the hardest hit area, with a heartbreaking 110 deaths alone.
Over 1.2 million homes and 3.6 million people have been caught in the watery chaos that spans 12 provinces, according to the disaster prevention department. Though floodwaters are pulling back in many places, some areas stubbornly remain underwater, making life tough for locals and rescue teams alike.
The Meteorological Department shared that while the rains have slowed down, bad thunderstorms could still roar in parts of the south, meaning the threat isn’t over yet.
Songkhla’s Hat Yai area, near the Malaysia border, has been slammed the worst. Rescue squads have finally reached neighborhoods cut off by deep floodwaters, finding more victims in the process. Local hospitals reported that morgues are bursting at the seams and even now, refrigerated trucks are used to store bodies.
Paradorn Prissananantakul, director of flood relief operations, said, “We will now move into the rehabilitation phase and work to restore cities to normal as quickly as possible.” Over 14,000 people have been safely evacuated so far.
Scary images from the region show flipped cars, snapped power poles, and roads littered with debris. Streets were impossible to cross, buildings submerged, and entire communities stuck as floodwaters surged earlier this week.
This tragedy isn’t alone. Southern Thailand’s woes tie into a larger Southeast Asian drama where more than 300 lives have been lost due to severe monsoon floods across Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
Experts blame climate change for making storms fiercer and rains heavier, driving up the danger and damage. The recent floods are a harsh reminder of how extreme weather is reshaping life in the region.
