The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) is turning up the heat! Their statewide “relay” boycott of outpatient (OP) clinics in government medical colleges is entering its sixth fiery week. This protest is against the government's careless ignoring of long-standing demands. On Saturday, November 29, 2025, doctors in medical colleges across Kerala will boycott all outpatient services and stop theory classes for medical students. But don’t worry—emergency care like surgeries, in-patient treatment, ICU, casualty, and labour room services will keep running smoothly, the KGMCTA assured. The doctors are serious and firm. They’ve said they will continue the agitation and won’t join any official talks for now. Protest meetings will take place in all medical colleges to keep the pressure on. Why this tough stand? The KGMCTA said, "We were forced to intensify our agitation as the government has chosen to ignore the long-standing demands of doctors." They also asked the public to avoid visiting hospitals for non-emergency issues on protest days to save themselves from trouble. The heart of the demand? Pay revision! The association has urged the government to fix pay anomalies and discrepancies, especially the low entry-level pay for Assistant Professors. This low salary is pushing young, talented doctors away from joining medical education services. The doctors are also calling for the immediate payment of pay revision arrears stuck since 2016. They pointed out a big injustice: "While the arrears of all State government employees were paid in four instalments, doctors continue to be denied their salary arrears." Ouch! But that’s not all. They want more faculty posts in new medical colleges as per the National Medical Commission’s rules and more posts in existing colleges based on how many patients they handle. Currently, the number of approved faculty posts is far too little. With their demands clear and spirits high, Kerala’s government doctors are not backing down anytime soon. The medical world is watching closely as the protest enters its sixth week!
