Cyclone Ditwah Brings Rain and Orange Alert in Chittoor, Nellore, Tirupati
November 30, 2025
Chittoor, Nellore, and Tirupati districts saw light showers on Saturday due to cyclonic storm Ditwah. An orange alert is active for these three districts. Pennepally in Tirupati recorded the most rain, 26.75 mm, while Nellore got 24.25 mm. Rainfall in other parts was less than 20 mm. Clouds covered Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh with temperatures staying below 30°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted at 6 p.m. on Saturday that Ditwah was over the southwest Bay of Bengal, moving closer to the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast. The cyclone will not make landfall but will pass within 25 km of the coast by Sunday evening. IMD says Ditwah will weaken into a depression by the time it nears the Andhra Pradesh coast.
IMD Director S. Stella said the entire state is likely to get light to moderate rain on November 30. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, and Prakasam districts. Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati have red alerts for extremely heavy rain in some areas.
Gale winds of 60-70 kmph, with gusts up to 80 kmph, may hit South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam might see squally winds of 40-50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph. Wind speeds will ease on Monday, but light to moderate rain will continue.
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha reviewed cyclone preparedness on Saturday. She instructed that disaster response teams be ready at all times. Control rooms must operate 24/7 and communicate weather alerts clearly. She emphasized taking precautionary steps to protect lives and property.
