The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stopped issuing visas to most Pakistani nationals, citing concerns about rising crime linked to visitors from Pakistan. Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, chair of the Senate human rights committee, confirmed these travel restrictions aim to prevent individuals involved in criminal activities from entering the UAE. British far-right anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson reacted sharply on social media, posting on X, “Divert their flights to Tucker Carlson.” This was a jab at American commentator Tucker Carlson, who has recently expressed sympathetic views towards Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities. In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Carlson criticised Islamophobia in the United States. He stated, “I have more in common with the sincerely religious Pakistani cab driver than anyone who works at the Times of London.” Carlson condemned the agenda of promoting hate against Muslims as organised and forced by certain powerful groups. He explained that he finds white liberals pushing anti-Muslim rhetoric more hostile than Muslim immigrants he meets in daily life. Carlson revealed he has never argued with a Muslim but finds “secular self-hating whites” difficult to deal with. He joked about walking out of meetings with them and said he prefers Bangladeshis over “liberal whites,” noting no Bangladeshi has ever yelled at him while white liberals have. This visa restriction by the UAE has led to heated discussions online, highlighting differing views on Muslim communities and immigration.
