The Kozhikode Rural police arrested three people for a big financial fraud linked to spiritual healing. The suspects are P.C.H. Shamsuddeen and Kannanthodi Muhammed Basheer from Malappuram, and P. Rafeeq from Nadapuram. They were caught on Saturday, November 29. Police said they took nearly ₹70 lakh from a man in Thottilpalam. They promised to heal his wife through spiritual treatment. The victim, A.K. Muhammed Adil, had been chasing the case for months. The accused used the family's hope for a divine cure to get money. The couple met the accused at a religious event in Nadapuram in January 2020. They later went to Kodur, Malappuram, to get the treatment. They stayed in a rented house for sessions that lasted all night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. On day three, the accused asked for ₹15 lakh as a loan and said they would pay it back in three days. Later, they took ₹55 lakh more in instalments, both in cash and bank transfers. An inspector said two accused were office bearers of a trust in Malappuram. The police found signs of similar cases in Nadapuram, Kuttiady, Kallachi, Kakkattu, and Panoor.
