India on Monday, December 1, 2025, evacuated the last batch of 104 stranded nationals from Sri Lanka amid the devastating Cyclone Ditwah crisis. Under Operation Sagar Bandhu, the group landed safely in Thiruvananthapuram early morning on an IAF aircraft, the Indian High Commission reported on social media. India intensified its rescue assistance across Sri Lanka. Chetak helicopters from INS Vikrant airlifted flood victims to safer zones. IAF helicopters searched isolated areas like Kotmale, hit hard by landslides and floods. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams joined Sri Lankan authorities in Kochikade for rescue operations. Now, they are working in the badly-hit, cut-off Puttalam and Badulla areas, helping families affected by severe flooding. Tragically, Sri Lanka’s Air Force confirmed the death of a pilot whose Bell 212 helicopter crashed during a relief mission in Wennappuwa. The pilot was trying to avoid civilian casualties by steering the chopper away and attempting a water landing. Five other Air Force personnel remain critically injured. Additionally, the Navy found five missing sailors dead in Chundikulam during rescue work. Cyclone Ditwah has caused widespread flooding, landslides, and infrastructure collapse in Sri Lanka, isolating several districts. Since November 16, floods and landslides have killed 334 people and left 370 missing, severely challenging the country’s emergency response.
