The Indian government has expressed hope that the US will treat visa applications of Indian students on their merit, ensuring they can join academic programs without delays. The Trump administration's decision to pause new student visa interviews and introduce social media vetting for foreign students has raised concerns. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, emphasized the need for Indian students' applications to be evaluated fairly. In the academic year 2023-24, approximately 3,30,000 Indian students pursued education in the US. The US embassy cautioned Indian students against skipping classes or dropping out without informing the school, as it could result in visa revocation. Jaiswal also provided an update on the deportation of illegal Indian immigrants from the US, stating that 1,080 individuals have been deported since January.
