Cyclone Ditwah Hits Nellore with Heavy Rain; IMD Issues Orange Alert

Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh continues to see rain on December 1, 2025, after heavy downpour caused by cyclonic storm Ditwah the day before. Light rains were recorded in Kodavalur (22.5 mm), Nellore Rural (20.5 mm), and Nellore city (11.25 mm) from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. A few locations in Tirupati also got less than 15 mm of rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Tirupati and SPSR Nellore districts and a yellow alert for Prakasam, Bapatla, West Godavari, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema districts on December 1. On November 30, only Nellore saw very heavy rain despite red alerts for SPSR Nellore, Tirupati, and Chittoor. Kavali mandal recorded 123.2 mm, Jaladanki 92.8 mm, and Bogole 74.8 mm. On December 2, heavy rain and strong gusty winds up to 60 kmph are expected at isolated places across Andhra Pradesh. Light rain will continue until December 5. The deep depression, a remnant of Ditwah, was located about 50 km east-southeast of Chennai and 200 km south-southeast of Nellore as of 8:30 a.m. on December 1. It is expected to move north along the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and south Andhra coasts and weaken into a depression by the morning of December 2, the IMD said.
