A fight broke out at a wedding reception in Civil Lines, Aligarh, over a sticker that read "beef curry" on a dining counter. Two guests, Akash and Gaurav Kumar, objected to the label and tried to record a video on the night of November 30, 2025. This sparked a heated argument. Police and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials arrived at the scene and took food samples for forensic testing. Circle Officer Sarvam Singh said, "Three people — the caterer and two others allegedly involved in the altercation — were detained for questioning and released later in the night." He added, "Action will be taken only after the forensic report establishes the nature of the meat. No case has been filed so far." Gaurav Kumar has filed a written complaint accusing the caterer of deliberately hurting religious sentiments. Police explained that confusion often arises because the word "beef" can mean both buffalo meat, which is legal, and cow meat, which is banned in the region. Following the incident, BJP workers gathered at the Civil Lines Police Station demanding strict punishment. BSP leader Salman Shahid also reached the station and accused BJP workers of "high-handed behaviour" and said the issue was a misunderstanding. The investigation is ongoing.
