Kerala Orders BJP Leader S. Suresh to Repay ₹4.16 Crore for Cooperative Losses
December 1, 2025
The Kerala Cooperative department issued an order in January 2023 demanding BJP State general secretary S. Suresh and other office-bearers repay ₹4.16 crore. This amount covers losses in the Peringammala Labour Contract Cooperative Society controlled by the BJP.
S. Suresh dismissed these allegations on November 19, 2025, calling them baseless. However, a detailed 25-page report reveals multiple irregularities.
The report notes misuse of funds, failure to return money to investors, poor record-keeping, improper loan distribution without proper collateral, and lack of arbitration where needed. These issues led to serious financial losses and investor complaints.
The department found that the office-bearers violated the Kerala Co-operative Societies Act, 1969 and the society’s bylaws. They caused losses amounting to ₹4.16 crore. Each officer must repay their part with 18% interest backdated to 2013.
Society president and RSS leader G. Padmakumar must pay ₹46.48 lakh. Vice president S. Suresh is liable for ₹43.34 lakh. Losses mainly came from a monthly investment scheme, loans under the Akshayasree scheme, and commissions paid to collection agents.
When contacted, Suresh maintained his earlier stance, calling the case "part of an election stunt."
He said, "All this happened 10 years ago. It does not have any relevance anymore. I resigned from the governing body of the society on July 26, 2016. The department report is of 2023-24, the proceedings on which the High Court had stayed earlier this year. I have no liabilities with the cooperative society."
