The Cyber police in Kozhikode city have identified a new group of suspects connected to digital arrest scams. This marks a key breakthrough in the ongoing Kerala-wide crackdown on cybercrime called Operation Cy-Hunt. Special squads are tracing these suspects using digital clues like device data, bank transactions, and communication logs. Operation Cy-Hunt aims to break down organized cyber-fraud groups inside and outside Kerala. The focus is on gangs behind 85 online investment fraud cases registered earlier in Kozhikode, including scams related to digital arrests. Kozhikode Cyber Police Station officers said they have arrested about 20 major suspects in cybercrime over the past 11 months. This includes three youths recently caught in Pantheerankavu for a ₹25-crore investment scam affecting an Ernakulam resident. Local police are working to find more links among 25 others arrested in Kozhikode during Cy-Hunt. Some have been asked to appear before investigators. "Operation Cy-Hunt resulted in the arrest of 284 suspects across Kerala," said an Inspector involved in Kozhikode raids. He added the operation was based on data from national agencies and the cybercrime portal. So far, 439 First Information Reports have been filed. With rising cyber fraud cases, police warn people to avoid risky online transactions on unsafe apps or unsecured Wi-Fi. They advise reporting suspicious activity immediately via helpline 1930 or the official cybercrime website www.cybercrime.gov.in.
