Telangana to Achieve Near-Zero Emissions by 2047 with Renewable Energy Drive
December 1, 2025
Telangana is on a mission to reach near-zero emissions by 2047 and become a clean energy powerhouse. The Telangana Rising 2047 Vision, launching next week, outlines a plan centered on renewables, low-carbon systems, and sustainable growth. The state will rely on large-scale renewables, smart grids, green hydrogen, and retrofitting coal plants with advanced emission controls.
The government projects power demand will jump from 100 TWh in 2026 to 780 TWh by 2047, with peak demand growing from 19 GW to 139 GW. By then, 90% of capacity will be renewables and storage, with efficient thermal power making up the rest. Over 60% of energy will come from battery and pumped-hydro storage supported by AI-controlled grids and green hydrogen.
In transport, Telangana will develop smart and sustainable mobility. After 2039, the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles will stop. Hyderabad aims to have the largest electric bus fleet by 2030. By 2047, all public transport will be zero-emission vehicles (ZEV), and 80% of private vehicles will be electric or ZEV.
The state plans 6,000 public EV charging stations by 2030, fast-charging corridors every 20 km, and hydrogen refuelling stations. Telangana Mobility Valley will be a hub for EV manufacturing, research, battery recycling, and hydrogen technology.
Metro rail networks will expand to all cities with over 5 lakh people, supported by AI traffic management and real-time transit platforms. Walking and cycling paths, green taxes, vehicle scrappage for polluters, and elevated corridors for high-capacity buses are part of the plan.
The state also targets renewable energy corridors in key districts and floating solar projects on major lakes. Capital for these initiatives will come from green bonds, blended finance, and carbon credit trading.
Telangana aims to combine zero-emission technology, circular economy practices, and nature-based solutions to become a fully net zero green industrial state by 2047.
