Seven New Mosques in Abu Dhabi Named After UAE Emirates by President Sheikh Mohamed
December 2, 2025
President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered seven new mosques in Abu Dhabi to be named after the seven Emirates of the UAE. This move celebrates national unity ahead of the 54th Eid Al Etihad. The mosques are located in Mohamed bin Zayed City and will collectively accommodate about 6,000 worshippers. They cover around 12,000 square metres and will open for prayers in January 2024.
The project is a joint effort by the Presidential Court, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, and the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority, said the mosques unite Islamic art and heritage with modern architecture. "Each mosque aims to provide worshippers with a peaceful and comfortable environment while maintaining a strong connection to the community," he said.
Dr. Al Darei praised the President’s support, adding that the mosques symbolize the UAE's values of generosity and progress. The initiative strengthens community spirit and faith by linking each mosque’s name to local and national identity. This creates places where worship and cultural traditions inspire future generations to uphold the country’s unity and heritage.
