Old Building Collapses on Eatery in Chennai, Three Injured

At least three people were hurt when part of an old building collapsed over a makeshift eatery on Darga Street at Dashamakan in Chennai on Tuesday evening. The accident happened around 9:15 p.m. The injured, Hafeez (44), Ayub Khan (55), and Nisha (48), were rushed to the hospital. Fire and rescue personnel and Purasawalkam Tahsildar Kuppammal Ramu arrived quickly at the site. The building, which was old and not occupied, is located in Ward 73 of Zone 6 in the Greater Chennai Corporation. "There were two to three eateries when the wall fell on the roof of a shop around 9.15 p.m. The couple running the eatery and another person were injured. They were taken on an ambulance to KMC," said Ziyaullah, an SDPI official present at the scene. He added, "This is the first time such an accident was reported in the main area. The building owner should offer medical help and support to those hurt." Ziyaullah also warned about other old buildings nearby that might be dangerous to people.
