An Army soldier died during a routine military exercise at the Indira Gandhi canal in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan. The accident happened on Tuesday morning, December 2, 2025. Two soldiers were inside a tank practicing crossing the canal when the tank got stuck and began sinking. According to police, one soldier managed to escape, but the other was trapped inside. Rescue operations by police, State Disaster Response Force, and Civil Defence teams took several hours to retrieve the trapped soldier's body. "A routine training exercise in which the armoured vehicles were practising to cross the canal was going on when the tank got stuck in the middle and started sinking," the police said. "There were two soldiers present in the tank. One managed to come out while the other got stuck." The postmortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3. The police confirmed the details on Wednesday morning. The incident highlights the risks soldiers face even during routine training drills.
