Cyclone Ditwah’s remnant has weakened but still hit south coastal Andhra Pradesh hard. Continuous rain for three days caused flooding in Tirupati, SPSR Nellore, and Prakasam districts. Roads are flooded and canals overflowed, especially in low-lying zones. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Ditwah's depression dropped to a well-marked low-pressure area over North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts by Wednesday 5:30 am. It is likely to weaken further and move southwest over the next 24 hours. By 6 am Wednesday, Tirupati received 2,137 mm rainfall, Nellore 1,415 mm, and Prakasam 11.4 mm. Heavy rains may continue in Tirupati and Nellore for another day. Many parts of Nellore city are waterlogged. YSR Nagar 5th and 8th Streets are fully submerged, with rainwater entering homes. Streets in G.K. Colony, Rajaram Reddy Nagar, Ravindra Nagar, and Sramika Nagar faced similar flooding. Even good neighborhoods like Magunta Layout, Gomti Nagar, Mini Bypass, Saptagiri Layout, and Ayyappagudi Junction suffer water stagnation. Residential parking areas are flooded, causing trouble for residents. Suburbs are in a worse condition. The Harinadhapuram electrical substation is submerged, making entry difficult. Electricity staff say the problem has lasted years but has been ignored by higher officials. Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy's brother, TDP leader Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy, inspected low-lying areas early Wednesday. He told Nellore Municipal Corporation officials to divert rainwater using irrigation canals. He warned residents to stay alert during heavy rains. Giridhar Reddy also assured locals they could call the MLA’s office for help. The situation remains under close watch as rains persist in Andhra Pradesh.
