Drunk Raccoon Breaks into Virginia Liquor Store, Passes Out on Floor
December 3, 2025
Staff at a Virginia liquor store were shocked to find a very drunk raccoon passed out on the floor after breaking in. The raccoon had climbed through the ceiling and drunk scotch from the bottom shelf. It was found asleep in the bathroom between the toilet and bin. Animal control officer Samantha Martin took the raccoon for questioning at Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter. After a few hours of rest and showing no injuries, the raccoon was safely released back into the wild. The store had been closed for Thanksgiving and discovered the mess on Saturday morning with smashed bottles and spilled liquor. The raccoon’s break-in was called a "Black Friday break-in" by the store. Officer Martin said the animal went "on a full-blown rampage, drinking everything". Only one blurry CCTV image of the drunken raccoon exists. The store thanked the animal shelter for its professionalism and providing a "sober ride home" for the animal. Officer Martin commented, "just another day in the life of an animal control officer."
