Three French Teens Drown After Car Crashes Upside Down in Swimming Pool
December 3, 2025
Three teenagers died when their car skidded off the road in Alès, southern France, and crashed upside down in a private swimming pool. The car broke through a wall and landed with all four wheels in the air, trapping the youths inside. The victims, aged 14, 15, and 19, were unable to open the doors and drowned in the pool, which was about 1.5 meters deep. The tragic accident happened during heavy rain in the early hours of Wednesday. Public prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini said, "It's truly the height of horror. It wasn't the impact of the accident that killed them. They found themselves upside down in icy water, unable to get out. They had no chance." Unconfirmed reports suggest the youngest teen was driving. The crash was described as caused by an "unbelievable series of circumstances." Firefighters drained the pool hours later to remove the mangled vehicle. Canisters of nitrous oxide, a recreational drug, were found in the car. Authorities have launched an investigation, and the bodies were sent to Nîmes for autopsy.
