India stepped up its help for cyclone-hit Sri Lanka by airlifting a 65-tonne Bailey Bridge on December 3, 2025. The Indian Air Force (IAF) used a C-17 transport aircraft to carry the portable, modular bridge from Hindan to Colombo. The Bailey Bridge will help reconnect flooded, broken regions in Sri Lanka. Pictures shared by the Ministry of Defence show IAF teams working on rescue, medical aid, and relief efforts after Cyclone Ditwah, which has killed at least 479 people so far. The IAF also flew Mi-17 V5 helicopters to deliver nine tonnes of relief supplies and rescue three survivors from isolated areas. India has been providing strong humanitarian aid through air, sea, and ground operations under “Operation Sagar Bandhu.” This mission began after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the effort on November 28 to help Sri Lanka during its crisis. Sri Lanka is facing severe floods, landslides, and large-scale destruction. On December 3, Sri Lanka declared 22 of its 25 districts as disaster zones. More than 1.4 million people are affected, and over 2,33,000 are taking shelter in 1,441 relief centers, according to Sri Lankan government data.
