A 45-year-old software professional, Murali Govindaraju, ended his life on December 3, 2025, at his under-construction home in Nallurahalli. Murali lived with his wife, two children, and mother. A 10-page death note and a complaint by his mother, Lakshmi Govindaraju, led police to arrest Shashi Nambiar (64) and Usha Nambiar (57) for abetment to suicide and extortion under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Their son, Varun, is absconding. The case stems from a 2018 property dispute. Murali had bought a 2,400 sqft site from a relative of the Nambiars. Problems began when he started building his house. The Nambiar couple, who live nearby, allegedly opposed construction, citing violations of building bylaws. Lakshmi told Whitefield Police that the couple "harassed and tortured" Murali and demanded ₹20 lakh to stop interfering. When Murali refused, Usha Nambiar involved the BBMP, now the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), which issued notices and carried out inspections. On December 3, the GBA sent Murali a notice for a hearing over alleged plan deviations—the same day he died. The carpenter found his body after arriving for work and alerted authorities. Lakshmi said Murali faced months of pressure and threats, moving between civic and legal offices. His death note details ongoing harassment and financial demands. Shashi and Usha Nambiar were produced in court and sent to judicial custody. Police continue searching for their son, Varun.
