Tourism Stakeholders Demand End to Safari Ban After Tiger Attacks in Kabini, Nagarhole, Bandipur
December 4, 2025
Tourism stakeholders have asked the Karnataka government to lift the safari ban in Kabini, Nagarhole, and Bandipur forests, following tiger attacks on farmers. B.S. Prashanth, president of Mysuru Travels Association, said safari jobs support many villagers as drivers, guides, lodge workers, and more. "These jobs provide stable, dignified livelihoods that have transformed entire communities. A ban would eliminate these opportunities overnight, forcing these families back into economic insecurity," the tourism group said. They added that the tourism ecosystem supports many others like farmers, traders, transporters, and artisans who rely on the income generated from safari tourism. At a press conference, Mysore Hotel Owners’ Association President C. Narayana Gowda, Skal International Mysuru president C.A. Jayakumar, taxi drivers, and others expressed concern about the ban's wide impact on local jobs and economy. The stakeholders appealed for restoring the safari operations to protect the region's livelihood and interconnected businesses.
