Father of Journalist Arfaz Daing Files FIR Over Illegal House Demolition by JDA
December 4, 2025
On December 4, 2025, Ghulam Qader Daing, father of journalist Arfaz Daing, filed a complaint at Police Station Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. He demanded a First Information Report against the Vice Chairman of the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) for the illegal demolition of their 40-year-old house on November 27. "I moved the application so that action is taken against those who illegally demolished our house," said Ghulam Qader Daing. The complaint states the JDA demolition team "forcibly and illegally demolished my residential house situated at Channi Rama, Jammu" without any notice or following due legal procedure. It also accuses the demolition of being "selective and discriminatory," causing wrongful loss to the Daing family. The family claims police officials were present and assisted the JDA team during the illegal demolition. The complaint says, "Several police officials were also present during the demolition and actively assisted the JDA team despite the action being illegal, thereby abusing their official position and violating my constitutional and legal rights." It further mentions the family, including children, was left shelterless in harsh winter, causing "immense physical, mental, and financial distress." According to the complaint, the involved officials and police committed serious offences like criminal trespass, mischief causing damage, criminal intimidation, abuse of power, and conspiracy under the law. The selective demolition sparked strong criticism from political parties and civil society groups in Jammu. The ruling National Conference (NC) and opposition parties including BJP, Peoples Democratic Party, and Congress condemned the JDA’s action and visited the demolition site to support the Daing family.
