New Zealand police have recovered a Fabergé egg pendant stolen by a man who swallowed it during a theft in Auckland. The man, 32, was arrested minutes after the alleged theft on 28 November at Partridge Jewelers. He swallowed the limited-edition James Bond Octopussy pendant worth NZ$33,000 ($19,000). The police monitored his bowel movements for six days to recover the pendant naturally without medical help. On Thursday night, the necklace was retrieved intact, still attached to its gold chain with the price tag. The suspect remains in police custody and is due to appear in Auckland district court on 8 December. The pendant is a rare piece, one of only 50 made. It is decorated with green enamel, 183 diamonds, and two sapphires. The egg opens to reveal a gold octopus with diamond eyes and suckers, inspired by the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy. A police spokesperson said, “Given this man is in police custody, we have a duty of care to continue monitoring him given the circumstances of what has occurred.” The necklace and the man remain under police watch as investigations continue.
