The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Gujarat’s electoral rolls started on November 4. Booth-level officers (BLOs) distributed forms to over 5 crore voters across 33 districts. The campaign will run till December 11. A release from the Chief Electoral Officer's office on December 4 revealed the shocking findings. More than 17 lakh deceased voters were still on the electoral rolls. Over 6.14 lakh voters were absent from their listed addresses. Additionally, more than 30 lakh voters had permanently migrated. BLOs also discovered more than 3.25 lakh voters registered multiple times in different places, called the “repeated” category. Digitisation of returned forms is underway in 182 assembly constituencies. So far, 12 constituencies including Dhanera, Tharad, Limkheda, and Dahod have completed the process. Dang district leads with 94.35% digitisation. The revision aims to clean up the voter list ahead of future elections. The drive targets accuracy and removal of outdated or incorrect entries.
