Singapore's High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, revealed on December 5, 2025, that he was among the "tens of thousands" of passengers stranded by IndiGo's widespread flight cancellations. Wong's flight to the Jharkhand town of Deoghar was unexpectedly cancelled, causing him to miss the wedding of a young staff member. He wrote on X, "I joined the tens of thousands of passengers stranded by #Indigo. My flight to #Deoghar has been cancelled. My sincere apologies to my young staff waiting for me to attend his #shaadi. Lost for words. HC Wong."
IndiGo is facing major operational problems nationwide, with over 500 flights delayed or cancelled, creating severe inconvenience for travelers. Passengers across various airports have called on IndiGo to enhance communication, offer timely updates, and provide essential services to those stuck.
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that IndiGo has requested temporary operational exemptions from certain Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules for its A320 fleet until February 10, 2026. This move aims to reduce passenger inconvenience while maintaining safety.
Following a detailed review chaired by the DGCA, IndiGo assured that corrective actions are in progress and that stable operations will be fully restored by February 10, 2026.
In a striking move reflecting the current crisis, all IndiGo flights departing from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were cancelled till midnight on December 5.
The disruptions continue to impact travel plans nationwide, highlighting challenges in maintaining smooth airline operations during this period.
