NZ Police Recover $19k Diamond Fabergé Egg Swallowed by Theft Suspect
December 5, 2025
New Zealand police have recovered a diamond-studded Fabergé egg locket valued at NZ$33,585 ($19,300) that a 32-year-old man swallowed after trying to steal it. The man was arrested at Partridge Jewellers in Auckland shortly after he allegedly ate the precious locket. The Fabergé egg locket is set with 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires and contains an 18-carat gold miniature octopus. Police confirmed the locket was recovered naturally, with no medical intervention needed. The suspect remains in police custody and is under constant medical monitoring. He has been charged with theft. The same man is also accused of stealing an iPad from the jewellery store on 12 November and stealing cat litter and flea products worth NZ$100 from a private address. The famous Fabergé egg, called the Octopussy egg after the 1983 James Bond film, will be returned to Fabergé. The suspect is due back in court on 8 December.
